Watched the first episode of CANAAN for kicks. There really isn’t that much to see here that hasn’t been done already- it has the feel of a generic action/conspiracy series. CANAAN takes it’s title from the name of the main character, a skilled female soldier/assassin (haven’t seen that before) who fights against a generic evil gang/corporation. It’s a bit too early to know exactly who and why Canaan is fighting, but I expect the details will be revealed soon enough.

First Impressions
action, CANAAN
Ok, so the follow up episode to the “Rin trains with terrorists” episode wasn’t as exciting as I thought it was going to be, but it was interesting nonetheless. A lot of character building here.

There’s no way he would be smoking if this was an American series.

Kurenai is a lot like Dennou Coil in that it’s a relatively unknown series that deserves some time in the spot light. The story was excellent, the characters were interesting, the voice acting was solid, and the animation was smooth (especially the fight scenes). The characters were the best part of Kurenai- I felt a connection to Shinkurou and Murasaki, and felt a great disdain towards the patriarchs of the Kuhouin family.
Kurenai centers around a high school student named Shinkurou Kurenai. He works for a woman named Benika Juuzawa as a conflict mediator. One day, Benika assigns him to be the body guard of a young girl named Murasaki Kuhouin, the daughter of a rich plutocratic family. Shinkurou doesn’t know why this girl needs protection, but he feels sorry for her and decides to take the job. Little does Shinkurou know that by accepting the job he will be set off on an adventure that will bring both joy and sorrow, and put his life, and the lives of those around him at risk. Will Shinkurou be able to fight against the unknown forces that are hunting for Murasaki? Watch the series and find out!

You will not believe the amount of work it took me to make this entry. I just spent a few hours wrestling with the thumbnail creation software that I use to provide screen caps of the shows I review. It can be very picky, and when it’s not fighting with CCCP (my codec pack), it worries about whether or not the batch image (which combines all screen shots into one picture) will have equal dimensions or not. With that over with, I present to you Kurenai.
