ToraDora Licensed

February 12th, 2010

Just a random note to break my long streak of not updating.  NIS America has licensed ToraDora.  It’s not surprising to me that TD got picked up- it was an excellent series after all.  What is surprising is that NIS America is now in the anime import business.  I guess it’s not a huge change from what they were previously doing, that is, importing JRPGs such as Disgaea.

Last I heard, FY2009 was not very kind to their pocketbooks.  I hope that they are able to right the ship by branching out into other markets.  I’m not sure that bringing anime to American will net them much money, but at least they picked a good series to with which to start their new ventures.  I’m sure it’s very tricky to cater to such niche markets, but that’s a game NIS America is very used to.

ToraDora! Finished

April 5th, 2009

Well well well, ToraDora managed to surprise me.  While the first four episodes left me with a somewhat bland taste in my mouth, the series quickly picked up from there.  All things considered, I really enjoyed ToraDora.  It had an interesting story that kept me guessing as to what was going to happen next, it had good characters, and most importantly, it did not (in my opinion) take the stereotypical High School drama route.  There were no harems.  There was no arbitrary co-habitation.  Nice.

ToraDora! 1-4

March 28th, 2009

Started ToraDora! yesterday.  So far its not bad, but it seems like it could be a show without a whole lotta depth.  I guess that’s being a bit unfair as the series hasn’t had a lot of time to get up to speed yet.

Minori (not pictured) is probably the most interesting character right now.  The main two pictured above (Taiga and Riyuuji from left to right) are so-so.  Riyuuji’s a bit of a push over, and Taiga is constantly upset.  I was surprised to learn that Minori is voiced by Yui Horie, because she sounds nothing like her previous characters.
