8/11/08 :: Otakon 2008 - The Year of Gurren Lagann

Seems like each time I update, the most appropriate title would be long time no see eh? Well, since that title was used two titles back (over a hear and a half ago), I'll settle for Otakon 2008 instead. This year marked my second time at the 'kon and it was just as much fun as the last. This year, it feels like I got a little bit less, but I probably ended up spending just about the same amount. The count this year runs in at: 2 Gurren Lagann fan-art posters, 2 Gurren Lagann art books, Vol 1 (special edition) and Vol 2 (standard) of Gurren Lagann, and 6 capsule toys (3 Lucky Star, 2 Haruhi, 1 Shana.) I'll post pictures below, though I'm not going to be able to easily update the "complete collection" photo on this webpage; as my collection begins to be spread out due to a lack of shelf space, assembling all of my stuff becomes a real chore. I'll make due for now by posting everything I got from Otakon on this main page, and perhaps adding close up shots of the spoils to the appropriate pages on this site.

Everything at Otakon was perfect, except for one thing: No GL merchandise besides the DVDs! I was hoping to find a good figure or at least some capsule toys, but the only figures I saw went for 160+ each. I'm not that crazy. Well, hopefully next year then.

*Editors Note* Pictures to come soon. I'm having a little trouble putting them here in an attractive manner, so I'll save that chore for tomorrow. Check back then.

*Editors Note* Pictures as promised.

1/07/08 :: New Years Update

Here are all the latest additions, quick and dirty:

  • Ghost in the Shell Second Gig Box Set
  • Twilight Samurai
  • Seven Samurai
  • Gunslinger Girl Box Set
  • When the Last Sword is Drawn

I also added two "non-Japanese" dvds: Inside Man and Hard Boiled. If all things go according to plan, I should be going about two months without picking up another DVD. The next title I want to get is Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, the first DVD comes out in February. In the mean time, I'll be in the market for some more shelf space.

12/18/07 :: Long time no see

Its been awhile since I've had a chance to update this site, but since school is out for winter break I can finally catch up on things. Over the past semester I've managed to add a few DVDs to my collection, but beyond that its stayed roughly the same. I completed my collection of the Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi, and added Satoshi Kon's latest movie Paprika, and I added a few other things here and there. Check out the DVD's page for update images.

With Christmas right around the corner, I'll be adding a few more things in the coming week. Strangely enough, this time around I'll be getting more "real" movies than animes, but fear not: I'm sure some new anime dvds will find their way to my shelf.

I've also come to the realization that the current organizational system of this website is a bit cumbersome. Thanks to the fact that I keep my collection (due to space constraints) in separate areas of my basement, it is very hard to update my "The Collection" page every time I get a new DVD. Its not a big deal though, so I guess we'll just deal with it for now.

7/22/07 :: Back From the Promised Land

I just got back from Otakon not too long ago (approximately 2 hours ago to be exact) and I've gotta say that it was A LOT of fun. I got to spend two and a half days hanging out with a group of cool people watching anime, AMVs, watching concerts, and waiting in a lot of lines. I'll be planning on visiting Otakon again next year, once I get my finances back in order =P. I probably spent around 213 dollars on anime stuff at the con. I came back with 11 capsule toys (mostly Suzumiya Haruhi, but also a few Fate/ Stay Nights and School Rumble), two art books (Suzumiya and Fate/ Stay Night), a dvd box set (Samurai 7 Complete Series) and a piece of fan art (Otaku's Guide to Hiragana). Check out the other pages on this site for more information!

PS. I have to apologize in advance if some of the narrations I've written in on the following pages are hard to understand and/or grammatically incorrect. I really wanted to push these edits out quickly after getting back from Otakon (so I wouldn't procrastinate) and it would seem that a general lack of sleep from the past few days is inhibiting my ability to write well.

7/6/07 :: Feeling Melancholy

It looks like working for large electronic retailers pays off, as I managed to save an undisclosed (we're not allowed to say what our discount is) amount on the Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi vol 1 DVD and vol 2 Limited Edition set. Included in the limited edition set was a music CD (featuring the opening theme + one other song), a "Brigade Chief" cosplay armband (looks like I'm ready for otakon now) and a "pencil board" featuring SOS dan at the beach. Fun fun. With otakon right around the corner, hopefully I'll be adding a few interesting pieces to my collection by the end of the month...after that its time to start saving again =P.

Speaking of otakon, I'll be able to document the trip for all to see thanks to a swanky new camera I got earlier this month. Its a Canon PowerShot SD750 "Digital Elph", and I must say its quite a sexy beast. With a 2gb SD card I bought off Newegg for a measly 22 bucks, I can hold over one thousand pictures at full 7.2 mp resolution at "standard" image quality. If mere standard quality is not good enough for you, it can hold over 500 at the next and highest quality level. The best part about it is it's small size and decent battery life. Can't beat it.

6/11/07 :: Birthday Presents!

Well, my birthday wasn't too long ago, and what better way to celebrate than going out to some Sushi (wasn't my idea originally) with the family! Of course, no birthday is complete without some brand spankin new anime collectables. This time I've added a Mahoromatic figure, Full Metal Panic: Fumoffu box set, and the Tokyo Godfathers DVD I was originally planning on waiting until July to get more stuff, but a Mahoromatic figure that was originally "discontinued" somehow was given new life. Thus, remembering Rick's wise words, I decided this was no time to take a chance and grabbed it right away. Unfortunately the Love Hina movie collection and some Fate/ Stay Night DVDs were unable to make the shipment, and will be forced to wait for some time.
